Okay, I've tried to wrap my brain around this and believe that I might have actually grasped the concept. So much of your content is 'gold' to me that I've started a looseleaf binder for my notes. The widgets/gadgets innovation makes so much sense and is exciting. It's all about options, freedom to "do things" that without the new tools would take so much more time, and just adds jet fuel to the whole process of using the internet to far greater potential. Thanks again!

<blockquote>On the other hand, as long as so many people remain clueless, I’m happy :) Kind of reminds me of SEO in 2002 all over again. I just hope it takes everyone 5 years to catch up again, hehehe</blockquote>
Sam - It was beautiful/profitable back then, no?

I agree those that see the potential and jump on early will make it big.

<blockquote>Am I just slow on the uptake, or did you sneak in a redesign on us, Hamlet? Pretty snazzy…</blockquote>
He, he, he. I thought nobody had noticed it. I changed the themed last week :-)

I been wanting an unique design for a while. I am glad I finally got it done.

For traditional SEO you can see that the more technical it gets, the less it interests them. That's fair enough, it's pretty boring compared to trying to link bait thousands of people... I think Hamlet is dead on though; once they see the potential they'll spend some time figuring it out! Also don't forget that these businesses/companies usually don't have a Facebook app for example. It might be that it just doesn't fit in their business model or they haven't seen anyone in a similar business pull it off yet (probably the latter :)). From personal experience I can vouch for the traffic and more importantly, conversions of that traffic. Our Facebook app has been the number one driver of new members in the past 6 months. And we've actually got an app that is not that easy to install/update so not really the kind of thing that Facebookers go for en mass. I know sites that have gained over a million extra members (who started with around 50K) based purely on one FB app! Those numbers make sense in all kinds of ways...

He, he, he. I'd have to assume that mentioning RESTful APIs, Javascript function calls, gData, etc. is not a good way to get a marketer interested ;-)

I am sure they will see the benefit once they see the results.

Nice article Hamlet. I agree with your post, and I am surprised by people who don't see the potential. Rand Fiskin's take on Open Social is yawning. WTF?
